5 Nigerians on board hijacked Ethiopian plane

The Ethiopian Government on Monday said five Nigerians were among the 193 passengers on board the Rome-bound Ethiopian airplane Boeing 767 hijacked on Monday.

The Ethiopian Minister of Information and Communication, Redwan Hussein, who confirmed  this during a news conference in Addis Ababa on Monday, said other passengers included 140 Italians, 11 Americans among others.
He apologised to the passengers for the "undue emotional stress and inconvenience they faced in the course of the hijack".
He said the suspected hijacker, whose name was given as Hailemedihn Abera Tegegn, 31, was under custody  pending investigation by authorities from the two countries.
According to him, the Ethiopian Government and its Swiss counterpart were making effort to expedite the travel of flight 702 passengers to their intended destination.
Flight 702, with 202 passengers and flight crews, left the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa at 12:30 local time and was due to land in Rome at 04:40 local time.
However, the plane was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Geneva at 06:00 local time, according to the airlines statement issued early on Monday.
Hussein said the act of the said asylum seeking co-pilot  was in violation of article 32 of the Ethiopian Constitution, which guaranteed the freedom of citizens to travel out of the country.
"It also represents a gross betrayal of trust that needlessly endangered the lives of the very passengers that a pilot is morally and professionally obliged to safeguard."
He commended the Swiss government for the care it provided for the passengers and the prompt apprehension of the suspect.
Hussein confirmed that the suspect allegedly locked the cockpit door when the pilot went to the toilet and hijacked the aircraft.
The official said that the suspect, who is seeking asylum from the Swiss government was being questioned by the Swiss police.

Borno to construct 250 houses for victims

The Borno government said it would construct 250 houses for 800 residents of Bulabulin Ngarnam in Maiduguri who were displaced by the Boko Haram crisis.

Gov. Kashim Shettima of Borno made the disclosure while inspecting the site for the construction of the houses near the Maiduguri Flour Mills.
Shettima said the gesture was aimed at providing shelter to the victims who had lost their property to the crisis.
He directed the committee handling the project to commence work on the site next week for early completion.
"We are building 250 houses for the residents to enable them to have shelter for their families.
"We are hoping that the houses will be ready early enough to provide succour to the victims."
Gov.  Shettima advised the committee to make use of cement blocks instead of the usual brick blocks for such houses to reduce cost, stressing that "each household should have a two-bedroom house to accommodate the family".
"The house might not necessarily contain a big parlour and other artificial design, but let it be convenient for the family."
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Ibrahim Ali, commended the governor for approving the construction of the houses and expressed willingness to commence work as soon as possible.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that residents of Bulabulin Ngarnam were rendered homeless last year after a military operation which demolished structures in the area.
The area was believed to be the hide-out and operational base of the Boko Haram militants.

Pa. Craigslist killing suspect claims 22 others

 

A Pennsylvania woman charged with her newlywed husband with killing a man they met through Craigslist admitted to the slaying in a jailhouse interview with a newspaper and said she has killed more than 20 other people across the country, claims police said they are investigating.

In an interview with The Daily Item in Sunbury, 19-year-old Miranda Barbour said she wants to plead guilty to killing Troy LaFerrara in November. She also said in the interview she has killed at least 22 other people from Alaska to North Carolina in the last six years as part of her involvement in a satanic cult.

"I feel it is time to get all of this out. I don't care if people believe me. I just want to get it out," Barbour told the newspaper for a story published Saturday night.
Sunbury police Chief Steve Mazzeo told the newspaper that investigators were aware of Miranda Barbour's claims of involvement in other murders. He said they are "''seriously concerned" and have contacted police in other jurisdictions.
In a statement issued Sunday, the FBI's Philadelphia division said it had been in contact with Sunbury police and "will offer any assistance requested in the case."
Miranda Barbour's lawyer did not immediately return messages from The Associated Press left at his office Sunday. Mazzeo did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment left at his office Sunday.
Attorneys for Barbour and her husband, 22-year-old Elytte Barbour, have both sought psychiatric evaluations for their clients.
Miranda Barbour's attorney also asked a judge last week to toss out statements she made before she was charged. Public defender Ed Greco said in the motion that Barbour wasn't afforded an attorney despite repeated requests during two police interviews.
Barbour said in the jailhouse interview that she wanted to plead guilty at her arraignment, but that Greco pleaded not guilty for her.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty for both defendants in LaFerrara's killing.
Miranda Barbour, a petite woman with long brown hair, told investigators she met the 6-foot-2, 278-pound victim after he responded to her Craigslist ad offering companionship for money.
Elytte Barbour told investigators they committed the crime because they wanted to kill someone together, according to court papers. The couple, who were married in North Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania about three weeks before the crime, told police Miranda Barbour stabbed LaFerrara in the front seat of her car while her husband held a cord around his neck.
Miranda Barbour said in the interview that she doesn't want to get out of jail and that she would kill again if released. She said she had no remorse and killed only "bad people."

Miranda Barbour offered little detail on the murders she claimed to have participated in in Alaska, Texas, North Carolina and California.

She claims she joined a satanic cult in Alaska when she was 13 before moving to North Carolina. Online records for the woman that the newspaper identified as Barbour's mother show her as having lived in both Alaska and North Carolina.

‘He snatched my girlfriend’: Teenagers torture 25-year-old man to death (PICTURED)

A 25-year old man, Abu Atiku has lost his life over the love of a girl as he was said to have snatched her from another boy.
According to reports, trouble started when Atiku who resided  camp in Opareke near Kotonkarfi, in Kogi State, started dating a 17-year old girl Ruth who lived in the neigborhood and this did not go down well with another teenage boy, Godwin Abraham who claimed to have been dating Ruth for two years.
It was gathered that Atiku was attacked by a gang of teenage boys on his way back from a Christmas carol dance with his friend Gado Mallam and were returning in the wee hours.

When Gado Mallam who was in company of Atiku saw that the evil gang meant harm, he fled into the bush. But Atiku was not as lucky as the boys beat him black and blue. They later tied a steel object round his neck and watched him groan to death.
In an exclusive interview with Daily Sun, Abraham who claimed he was a farmer said he had earlier warned the deceased not to have anything to do with his girlfriend, but he would not listen; so he decided to teach him a lesson of his life.
“I have been going out with Ruth since two years now. We promised to marry each other, but since Atiku came between us, he would not allow me to enjoy the girl anymore.
“He was coming with money and lots of gifts to lure the girl away from me; things became so bad that the girl didn’t want to see me again.
What pained me most was that she had agreed to go to that Christmas carol dance with me, but immediately she saw Atiku her countenance changed, and she just disappeared with him for a very long time.
“I was full of rage, and so I went to organised some boys to attack Atiku and teach him a lesson. That was after Ruth had gone back home and he (Atiku) and his friends were going back to their camp.
“But, honestly, I did not know he would die while we tortured him; when he was gasping I thought he was playing pranks, until we discover he couldn’t breathe again; it was then that we ran away; but honestly I feel sorry now, for doing that,” he declared amidst sobs
The state Commissioner of Police, Seidu Madawaki, who gave the names of the accomplices as, Samson Wakili, Wazili Huleji, Wodi Wala and Ibrahim Moses said as soon as the police had completed their investigations, the suspects would be charged to court.

Now, in their late 30s, they can hardly believe they’re out.
What does freedom feel like? “I’m still going through it right now,” Yarbough said Friday.

DNA frees 2 men in N.Y. triple murder

“I haven’t slept yet. I’ve been up for two days now. I have no words for it right now.”
Nearly 22 years of hard time
Imagine more than two decades in a maximum security prison. Add to that the fact that you’re accused of killing your mother, your sister and your cousin.
As if that’s not enough, you were the one who discovered their lifeless, bloodied bodies when you opened the door to your home one night.
If it’s hard to imagine what that’s like, Yarbough will tell you.
After years in Attica’s maximum security prison among New York’s toughest criminals, he left its high, gray walls behind him Thursday.
“It was a nightmare,” Yarbough told CNN’s Piers Morgan in an exclusive interview. “Twenty-one years and seven months was more like 42 years and seven months, when you know you’re in prison for something you didn’t do.”
After reviewing DNA evidence, District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson said the previous convictions for the 1992 murders in Brooklyn would most likely not stand up in court again and agreed the two men should be freed.
“Anybody looking at this evidence with an open mind would see that there is no chance in the world that Tony murdered his mother and these two little girls,” his lawyer Zachary Margulis-Ohuma said.
And that goes beyond the DNA evidence alone. Margulis-Ohuma was convinced Yarbough was innocent years before.
At least one false confession detectives coerced out of a scared teenage boy over 20 years ago led to the convictions.
A night out
After a night of partying, Yarbough, 18 at the time, and Wilson, 15, went home to Coney Island. Wilson was staying with friends, they said.
When Yarbough got home, he opened the door to find his mother, sister and a close family friend lying stabbed and strangled to death. The two girls were partially undressed.
Police came.
“I was asked to come down to the precinct,” he said. Officers said they wanted him to tell them who might have killed his family, he said.
“Before you know it, I had this photograph shoved in my face, and I was being threatened and slapped around, and they wanted me to sign a false confession. And I wouldn’t,” Yarbough said.
Police also took in Wilson and questioned him separately from Yarbough. But he got similar treatment, he said.
“I was scared, afraid; I was lied to, manipulated into believing that I was going to go home, if I do tell … what they said happened.” Wilson said.
Faced with a life behind bars, the young boy cooperated for the promise of lighter treatment.


Life in prison
The two were convicted in separate trials. Yarbough was sentenced to 75 years to life. Wilson got a lower sentence of nine years to life.
They sat behind bars for about 12 years, then something important arrived by mail.
“Out of the blue, I got a letter from his (Yarbough’s) aunt,” Wilson said. “And she asked me, did we really do it. And I had to tell the truth.”
He wrote back to her: “I was wrong for turning on him, but I was scared and pressured into it.” We’re innocent, he told her.
“For many years I felt horrible that I had to do that and that I actually did it knowing that we weren’t guilty for a crime we didn’t commit,” Wilson said.
“I still feel horrible now,” he said, sitting next to Yarbough.
Wilson’s letter led lawyer Margulis-Ohuma and the district attorneyThompson to review their cases in 2010 — five years after he sent it.
Wrongful convictions
Thompson came into office in January with promises to restore justice to the wrongfully convicted. This case is part of a review of Brooklyn killings from the 1980s and early 1990s.
Then, last year, the right shred of evidence came along in the form of a DNA sample from a rape-murder committed in 1999.
It matched DNA found under the fingernails of Yarbough’s mother, indicating that the same killer probably committed both crimes. In 1999, Yarbough and Wilson were in prison and couldn’t have committed the second murder.
Margulis-Ohuma called Yarbough in prison to tell him that he was going to be free.
“When I heard about it, I was extremely overwhelmed,” Yarbough said. “I was happy.”
And the DNA was not the only thing that matched. The m.o. was the same, Yarbough said. The victim was stabbed and strangled.
“Hope had finally started to sink in,” he said.
Free at last
Wilson and Yarbough had not seen each other for more than two decades, when they met in court Thursday.
Wilson approached the man he had testified against. “I just wanted to apologize to him for all I put him through, all I went through.”
Yarbough is still in pain over it, but he faults someone other than Wilson.
“I know what they did to him, because I know what they did to me,” he said.
As to finding his relatives’ killer decades later, Yarbough said, “It’s in God’s hand’s now.” He teared up.
Both men celebrated freedom by fulfilling some longings they had for two decades.
Wilson filled his mouth with a hot slice of New York pizza.
Yarbough filled his lungs with New York air.

A woman resident in Lagos is said to have been severely injured by her husband after he poured hot water on her.

The victim, Ifeoma Oraka, is said to be undergoing treatment for burns at the Hilton Hospital in the Apapa area of the state.

Her attacker and husband of 10 years, Samuel, is still at large and he is said to be resident in Angola.

According to Ifeoma, Samuel poured the hot water on her and then proceeded to pin her down and massage her skin and this made her injuries worse as her skin peeled as he rubbed it.

The victim is said to have stated that violence in their marriage was not a new thing as her husband had slapped her a mere two days into their union.

Huh?! Church lets members worship naked because Jesus was born & crucified naked (photos)

A church in the US state of Virginia has taken the bizarre decision to allow its congregation to attend services in the nude. Pastor Allen Parker, the leader of White Tail Chapel in the town of Southampton, said he came to the decision to allow naked worship after concluding the clothing requirements of other churches were overly 'pretentious', and decided his own flock should be free to forgo such materialism if they desire.

Speaking to CNN, Mr Parker said: 'When he [Jesus] was born he was naked, when he was crucified he was naked and when he arose he left his clothes in the tomb and he was naked.''If God made us that way, how can that be wrong?

Valentine Murder : Man beats girl-friend to death

The police in Anambra on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of a 27-year-old man suspected to have beaten his girl-friend to death in Onitsha.
The commands Public Relations Officer, Mr Emeka Chukwuemeka, said that the suspect was arrested while attempting to run away after the incident.
“A full scale investigation has commenced on the matter to unravel what really happened,’’ Chukwuemeka said.
A resident of No. 46 Old Market Road, where the incident happened, on condition of anonymity said that the suspect was in the habit of beating his girl friend even though the girl refused to let go of the relationship.
“It happened last night when we started hearing the usual beating and cry from their corner.
“At a time, it appeared that he noticed that his lover was no longer responding, so, with the help of his mother and some neigbours, they rushed her to a hospital where she was confirmed dead,’’ the witness said.
The incident reportedly happened around 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
Following the development, some residents of the compound left their homes for fear of arrest. (NAN)

Father padlocks son’s mouth to prevent him from shouting while beating him to death (photo)

Oh dear, this dad is so cruel!
A father has allegedly beaten his four-year old son to death, padlocking his mouth to prevent him from shouting while the beating lasted.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon at 7, Adetola Adelaja Street, Meiran area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the man, Mr. Chris Elvis, who claims to sell computer accessories, allegedly locked his son, Godrich in the room, padlocked his mouth and beat him to death with an object that inflicted deep cuts all over his body, claiming that the boy was an Ogbanje (evil child that dies and reincarnates repeatedly).
The man landed in trouble when his landlady, Mrs Popoola who was in the market, was informed that something was happening in her house. She rushed home and discovered that the boy had been beaten to death by his father.
She rushed to Meiran Police Station to report the matter. The police stormed the house around 9 O’clock last night to arrest Elvis who was about to escape.
After allegedly killing the boy, he locked him in one of his rooms. He told the police that nothing happened but when the police forced the locked room open, they found the dead boy with padlock in his mouth.
The police at Meiran took the boy’s corpse away and deposited it at the Ota General Hospital, while the man was detained and would be transferred to Area ‘M’ Police Division in Lagos later for further investigation.
After the incident on Monday, the police also arrested the landlady who came to report the matter at the police station and detained her till Tuesday morning, while allegedly demanding for N50,000 to bail the innocent woman.
A tenant in the house, Apostle Freedom Damian said Elvis had been a strange man in the house as he do not talk to anybody and was always keeping to himself and nobody could ask him questions.
He described the murder of the boy as gruesome and cruel.
Tenants living in the same compound with Elvis never knew his name and could not tell P.M.NEWS reporter his name because he does not interact with people.

Woman Left Brain-damaged After Bosom Implant Surgery

A young woman named Linda Perez who fell into a coma last year after a devastating bosom augmentation surgery in a hospital in Florida has been allowed to go back home after spending half a year in hospital. Now, she is unable to move on her own, can only say a few words and looks like a skeleton. Doctors think she may never recover from the brain damage she incurred from the surgery.
Linda,19, reportedly suffered brain damage in the hour after the bosom augmentation finished but now the doctor who performed the surgery, Dr Jacob Freiman, is filing to have access to her earlier medical records because he feels she hid key facts from him – like a complication from anesthesia [given by Dr. Mario Diaz] that she was given during the birth of her son – If she had told him about that incident, he would have approached the procedure differently. Doctor Freiman is said to have a clean record and is a board certified plastic surgeon, according to the Florida Department of Health.
Following recent pictures which hit the web yesterday, Linda Perez was seen carried by her father Fernando Izquierdo because she can barely move her limbs after complications during her August 2013 bosom augmentation surgery.
According to UK’s DailyMail, the teen now has to be under constant supervision as she has dropped to a skeletal weight and Doctors fear that the now-19-year-old may never recover. Her mother is however, holding out for a recovery, citing the fact that her being off of her feeding tube is a good sign. “I still have hope because she is alive and she’s home,” Mariela Diaz told The Miami Herald.

Linda’s bosom augmentation surgery took place at The Coral Gables Cosmetic Center on August 2013 and she reportedly paid ONLY $2,800, which is believed to be about half of the normal price of the procedure. Her family were told that her heart stopped during the operation and she was ‘effectively’ dead when she was transported to hospital. She suffered brain and heart damage during the procedure.
Perez was admitted to Mercy Hospital following her procedure and her family’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, says that finding out what went wrong will require litigation.
While Dr Freiman has a clean history with the medical board, it later emerged that the anaesthetist Dr. Mario Alberto Diaz had previously served time for illegally selling pain pills over the internet. Dr Diaz served time in federal prison in 2006 for illegally dispensing at least 53,000 doses of pain pills over the Internet. He also had his Florida medical license suspended for six months
“They put a spinal aesthetic, and she needed to be intubated,” Dr Freiman said in a report filed by the medical center to gain access to her [Linda] earlier records. He says that the information was purposefully kept from him in order to keep him from calling off the plastic surgery.
While she may be remaining upbeat, Linda’s mother admitted that she has not come to terms with her inability to move on her own and says, “She goes into depression and cry, she sees that she cannot walk, and when she realizes what happened to her, she weeps.”

Plane crash in Algeria kills 103 people

Oh no! Such a sad report. A military transport plane carrying relatives of members of the armed forces veered off the runway and crashed on take-off in southern Algeria today February 11th, killing all 103 people onboard. The plane was carrying 99 passengers and 4 crew members.

According to reports coming from news agencies in Algeria, the Air Algerie plane, a Boeing 737, which is the country's national airline, crashed after one of its engines caught fire as it took off in the remote city of Tamanrasset in the Sahara Desert.

A spokesman for the airline told AFP that "There was a mechanical problem on take-off". This is the first major accident in the history of Algeria's national airline, set up in 1962. 

New Born Baby Dumped Dead At Ikorodu By A Wicked Mother

A callous and wicked woman dumped the pictured baby above overnight at Benson bus stop Ikorodu Lagos Nigeria. Onlookers tried to rescue the baby but realised the poor male child was dead! Too bad, even animals do not dump their newborns.
This is the height of insanity, I urge ladies to have a rethink about terrible acts like this. If you are not ready for the baby simply avoid the act or protect yourself and when inevitable, do not ever dump the baby.

A truck conveying sand around 2am today February 6th tumbled from the bridge in Maryland Lagos onto the express lane below. The truck, which has since been removed by traffic and emergency officials veered off its lane and crashed through section of the culvert and fell onto the express lane.

2women jailed for trafficking &making children beg with fake wounds

Two women have been arrested and jailed for trafficking children and making them beg on the streets of Lagos with fake wounds.

The Family Court 1 in Yaba Magistracy has jailed two women for trafficking and using children to beg for alms in Victoria Island area of Lagos.

The women, Amarachi Eke from Imo State and Chioma Eze from Awka in Anambra State, were arraigned at the court on Wednesday on a two-count charge of using underaged children to beg for alms. And they pleaded guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa sentenced them to two months imprisonment each; one month for each count charge and they are also to pay a fine of N5,000. The jail terms will run concurrently.

In sentencing them, Aje-Afunwa said there was the need for the convicts to learn some useful lessons in prison and that since they were still young, they should engage in something more productive rather than using kids to beg on the street.

According to her, they have to learn  the hard way in prison not to engage in something bad in the society, believing that the prison would transform their lives for the better.

The two women were arrested at Ajose Adeogun Street, Victoria Island recently while begging with two kids, aged six and nine years. The stomach and legs of the kids were plastered with ointment and wool to give the impression that they were suffering from serious burns to attract public sympathy.
An Environmentalist, Betty Albert, was driving by and saw the gory sight of the nine-year old boy lying on the ground and decided to assist the victim.

She parked her car and came out and told Chioma that she should be allowed to take the boy to the hospital.
On hearing this, Chioma asked the boy to run away which he did, but unfortunately, he was caught by a policeman who was on duty nearby.
The Environmentalist asked the policeman to chase after the boy and he was caught and brought back to the scene.
“I asked the boy whether something was wrong with him and he said he was okay. I asked him whether I could remove the plasters and wool on his stomach and he said yes. So I removed them and found out that the boy was alright.
“The boy told me that his younger brother was at Eko Hotel with  another woman also begging for alms and that they should help him to get the boy. The boy was brought with the other woman,” Betty explained.
The boy’s leg was also plastered with ointment and wool to deceive people that he had been badly burnt and needed help.

Investigation revealed that Chioma Eze, from Anambra State, had gone to Awka and told the children’s parents that she wanted to assist them send the children to school in Lagos and she was allowed to take them. But unknown to the parents, their children were brought to beg for alms in Lagos.

Betty had been following the case for almost two weeks to ensure justice was done.
The women were arrested by police from Bar Beach Police Station, while the case was later transferred to Adeniji Adele Police Station.

The case was again transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba where it was charged to court on Wednesday.

According to Betty, the in-law of one of the women had been threatening her life because of the way she had pursued the case, alleging that the in-law to Chioma said he had marked her face and would ensure that she was eliminated.

The Lagos State Office of Youth and Social Department has been following the case and has expressed disgust at the way the children were ill-treated by the women.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, Dr. Dolapo Badru, said it is lamentable that Anambra State had continued to be a place where people were brought to Lagos to beg for alms.

“How can these women be so callous to have brought these children from Anambra State to beg for alms in Lagos? They even make the children feign injury and they don’t have homes in Lagos and now they will say we are deporting their people. What we are saying is that these are things the public won’t know,” he stated.

He said Lagos “would not tolerate a situation where Anambra State would continue to infest the state with beggars and later cry wolf that we are deporting people that have no homes to stay in the state.”
Badru vowed that the government would go after such people using kids to solicit for alms, while decrying the new strategy now being in used to attract public sympathy, saying it is inhuman to treat kids  that way.

He said the punishment meted out to the women would serve as deterrent to others who might want to engage in such despicable act.

Confusion in Osun state as students wear religious clothes to school

The Baptist High School, Iwo, Osun State was in a state of chaos and confusion yesterday Tuesday Feb 4th as some students of the school came into the school premises wearing their religious apparels such as Hijab, choir robes, white garments, fetish veils and Orunmila attires, ditching the approved uniform by the state government. And later during their assembly time, the students all sang songs that were associated with their religious beliefs.

According to reports, the students were registering their displeasure at the state government for the introduction of Unified School Uniforms for all schools irrespective of religious beliefs. The Christians who are owners of the school were protesting the new policy on education set by the state government that allows Muslim students to wear Hijab to Christian's mission public schools.

The new policy of school reclassification by the state government, which was introduced last year has been causing a lot of problems in the state, because it introduced the merger of most of schools, and because some of the schools are faith-based, there's chaos. The Christian schools do not want Muslim students wearing Hijab to school but the state govt has made it legal, thus the continued protest...

First Lady Patience Jonathan pays for heart surgery for 800 children

Rabiu Obere from Nasarawa; Sultan Lamidi from Lagos; Salamatu Abdulsamad from Kano; Noah Ezeilo from Imo and Sita Omago from Akwa Ibom, are among the more than 800 children that First Lady Patience Jonathan's NGO, The A. Aruera Foundation, paid their medical bills to undergo heart related surgeries in India.

While receiving the last batch of the children from India, Dame Jonathan expressed her gratitude to God for the safe return of each child, noting that since the process started in 2013, no death has been recorded.

"We have treated more than 800 patients with no record of casualty; I’m happier than you, the parents" she said

She disclosed that a 250-bed hospital facility  edicated to the treatment of children with heart related diseases was under construction and would soon be commissioned.

"We are partnering with our international friends from South Korea, India and America who will run the hospital.’’

One of the beneficiaries, Miss Aisha Aliu, thanked the first lady on behalf of all the other children "I thank you for saving my life, for your contribution towards my heart surgery, may God bless you ma"

WAEC Exam ‘Cheats’ Return Certificates After Christ Touched Their Hearts

In what may come as a big surprise to most people, no fewer than 15 persons recently returned certificates issued to them by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Cos according to them, they had to give up the certificates because they cheated during the examination, and now as Born Again Christians, they could not live with “the sin.”


SunNews reports that some individuals approached WAEC through letters seeking restitution after confessing how they dubiously acquired their certificates when they wrote the examinations at various periods.

The Council wrote back to them, stating that what they were expected to do was to return the certificates awarded in line with the rules and regulations guiding the conduct of the examinations.

However, only a few responded, including a holder of Teachers’ Grade 11 certificate.

It was learnt that those who complied with the directive returned their certificates to various WAEC offices nationwide and the council took their case to the Nigeria Examinations Committee (NEC), which, at its 55th meeting in Lagos, cancelled the returned 15 certificates.

WAEC INTRODUCES 39 NEW SECONDARY SCHOOL SUBJECTS

The West African Examinations Council has announced the introduction of 39 new subjects in its examinations.

The Council’s Acting Head, Test Development Division, Mrs. Olayinka Ajibade, who announced this, said the new subjects would commence in this year’s May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

Ajibade said this while delivering a paper titled “The New Senior Secondary Education Curriculum in Nigeria: Implications for Assessment” at the council’s monthly seminar in Lagos on Friday.

The fresh initiative, she said, was in accordance with the Nigerian Education Research and Development Council’s new secondary school curriculum.

The NERDC is the body responsible for reviewing primary and secondary schools’ curricula in the country.
She said, “The implementation of the new SSCE curricula began in September 2011, meaning that the maiden public examinations based on the new/ revised curricula are expected to be held in May/ June 2014.

“Each WASSCE syllabus is derived from the senior secondary education curriculum. In addition to the 39 new subjects for which NERDC engaged in curriculum development, curriculum review was also carried out for 35 existing subjects.”

In the new curriculum, four new subjects- Computer Studies, Insurance, Store Management and Office Practice- are in the electives category, while the remaining 35 subjects are in the Trades category.

Among subjects in the trade category are Painting and Decorating, Photography, Salesmanship, Plumbing and Pipe Fitting, and Upholstery.

Ajibade added that under the fresh directive, students would be required to take four core subjects, comprising English Language, General Mathematics, Civic Education and Trade/ Entrepreneurial Studies.

The candidates, she added, would be required to choose three or four subjects from Humanities, Science, Technology and Business Studies depending on their potential and interest.

Ajibade, while unveiling this, noted however that the new directive would face some challenges.

She identified inadequate teachers, appalling state of facilities in schools and large class size as some of the challenges that would likely beset the initiative.

Why 35-Year Old House Wife Stabbed Her Brother-In Law To Death

Some stories are just unbelievable. Obiageli Oriuwa, pictured above, killed her brother in-law, a medical doctor because she wanted him out of his father's house. She is married to the doctor’s elder brother and they both lived in the said house with their wives and children. She has been fighting him to leave the house with his family, because the house belongs to her husband, since he was the first son of their father. The unbelievable however happened on Tuesday, when Obi stabbed the doctor to death after a short argument. Read teh full story after the cut.

The real motive, a 35-year old woman, Mrs Obiageli Oriuwa, allegedly killed a medical doctor, Ikechukwu Oriuwa, who was her husband’s younger brother, has been revealed by the family of the victim.

Obiageli, who has been arrested and is undergoing interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, allegedly stabbed the 37-year old medical doctor to death at their family house at 52, Ladega Street, Ajegunle in Apapa, Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, during an argument between them on Tuesday.

She was initially detained at Tolu Police Station in Ajegunle before the matter was transferred to Panti.

A member of the victim’s family, Chinedu Oriuwa, alleged that it was not the first time Obiageli attempted to kill Ikechukwu. He said she had asked the doctor and his family to move out of the family house, claiming that the house belongs to her husband since he is the first son of the family.

Chinedu said though the matter was settled between them, Obiageli still continued to nurse animosity against everybody in the house, including their mother who has now travelled abroad.

Chinedu explained that Obiageli’s husband, Edward, who is their elder brother, married the suspect two months after he had married a lady identified as Veronica, against the wish of the family and this always caused quarrel between Obiageli and other members of the family, including the late medical doctor.

Confirming what led to the incident, the mother of three, who spoke with P.M.NEWS from police custody, claimed that she did not deliberately set out to kill the medical doctor, but only wanted him and his wife to pack out of the family house.

She said she was entitled to live in the house since her husband is the first son of the family.

The suspect explained that she was always having disagreement with the late Ikechukwu because he did not want his elder brother to marry her.

Obiageli said her husband married her against the wish of his family and because of that there was always quarrel between her and the family including the late Ikechukwu.

When asked how she felt about the incident, Obiageli said she was confused and that if she had known, she would not have married into the family.

P.M.NEWS had reported Wednesday how Obiageli allegedly killed the medical doctor at their family house.

According to their neighbours, Ikechukwu woke up in the morning, went to a gym for exercise and came back to prepare for work. But on getting home, tenants complained to him that Obiageli switched on her electricity generator in her shop where she sells drinks, locked the shop and went away on Monday night.

They told him there were sparks from the generator around 2 a.m. and almost burnt the building before tenants put out the fire.

P.M.NEWS gathered that after the complaint that Tuesday morning, Ikechukwu went to Obiageli to advise her not to switch on her electricity generating set in the shop and leave it as that could burn the house.

According to the tenants, Obiageli got angry and attempted to fight Ikechukwu that morning but the tenants separated them.

Obiageli later went to her room and brought a kitchen knife which she allegedly used to stab the victim on his left rib cage. She left the knife there and ran away.

Ikechukwu bled profusely and was rushed to Zollinger Clinic at 20, Taiwo Street, off Tolu Road Apapa, but he died on the way.

The doctor only certified him dead when he got to the hospital.

There's this recording that has gone viral - an "Uche face your work o" Etisalat customer care call, lol.

Uche, an Etisalat Customer Care Officer had called one of her customers' lines to innocently check up on him. Unfortunately for her, the customer's wife picked and after some talk, the wife politely but firmly warned Uche to face her work and stop trying to steal people's husbands or she would show up at her office of course to embarrass her. The call is soo hilarious.
